Sydney make winning start to NYL
It was good to see Sydney kick off the new National Youth league with a win on Saturday afternoon. Even more pleasing was the crowds response to the match — goals were celebrated with a roar, fans groaned as one as the ball skimmed the bar and so on.
The A-League goes on a break this weekend (FIFA match date) and so the only local action — apart from Adelaide United’s ACL Semi-Final tonight — will be the Youth league (which plays on FIFA match dates in order to catch up with the A-League). For those interested, Sydney FC Youth host Adelaide United Youth at Seymour Shaw Park, Miranda from 2PM.
As I just mentioned, Adelaide will be hosting Kuruvchi FC (UZ) in the first leg of the Asian Champions League Semi-Final at a sold-out Hindmarsh Stadium tonight. Should be a cracker of a match and hopefully Adelaide can continue to fly the Aussie flag in this competition.
