Australia vs Uruguay
Uruguay 2 defeated Australia 1
At Stadium Australia, Sydney
Almost 62,000 showed up at the 2000 Olympic venue for a friendly clash between two nations that have become fierce rivals over the past few world cup qualification campaigns.
With several top-line Socceroos resting, it was an opportunity for others to stake a claim for an Asian Cup berth. Australia, as has become habit, played strongly in the first half and went in at half time 1-1. Uruguay stepped it up a notch in the second term and eventually went ahead after ‘keeper Jones let a cross slip straight threw his hands.
All things considered, a reasonably promising warmup. A-League players Nick Carle and Archie Thompson looked sharp and eager when they came on in the 2nd half.
