Kanon (2006) Episode 7
This episode kicks off with Makoto once again trying to play a prank on Yuuichi while he sleeps, and once again he’s wise to her. The next day, a yawning Makoto is brought down to breakfast with everyone else as it’s her first day of work. Unaware of the true nature of Akiko’s special jam, she happily accepts the offer of some on toast with predictable results.
On the way to school, Nayuki can’t resist patting a cat — despite her allergies — and so ends up sniffing for the rest of the day. Yuuichi once again meets up with Shiori in the schoolyard before heading to his now regular lunch with Mai and Sayuri.
Walking home, Yuuichi is (quite literally) crash tackled by Ayu. She’s still searching for her unknown but important object, but Yuuichi doesn’t feel up to helping her this time. Leaving her, he then runs into Makoto looking wistfully at girl’s her own age playing in a game center. She, of course, denies this when Yuuchi questions her. After insisting she has something to do, she goes off on her own, but it isn’t long before Yuuichi catches her following him, planning more mischief.
They meet the same cat that Nayuki petted earlier in the day and, despite initial hesitation, Makoto takes a shine to it. This nice passage takes a dark turn when she lets the cat slip over a bridge, sending it tumbling onto the roof of a truck below. Yuuichi chews her out and she runs off. When she doesn’t return home by dinner time, Yuuichi goes searching for her.
He doesn’t really know where to look, so he ends up at the school with Mai. She tells him that she has a feeling that Makoto is at Monomi Hill. Sure enough, when Yuuichi heads there he finds her asleep on the grass with the cat! He takes them both home, carrying the sleeping Makoto on his back. Upon waking the next day, Makoto is surprised to find that Yuuichi brought her home and she also vaguely remember him telling her that she was family while she was asleep. Looks like she’s finally warmed up to him.
So, the Mai arc continues along nicely. I guess it will probably be resolved in another two or three episodes (unless they switch arcs for a bit.) Overall, this series continues to go from strength to strength, I can’t wait for the next episode.
